BANGALORE: Harinder Gupta, the 21-year-old professional from Chandigarh, led a pack of twenty golfers that returned sub par scores in the opening round of the EMAAR-MGF PGTI golf championship at the Karnataka Golf Association here on Tuesday. A direct entry for the Dubai Desert Classic scheduled from February 1st to 4th next year beckons golfers playing in this tournament. Harinder had a bogey free first round and fired seven birdies including a 16 footer on the seventh hole. His putting and driving during his seven under 65 was spot on. The contest is, however, tight with Amandeep Singh Malik carding a six under 66 and Manav Jaini along with Harmeet Kahlon shooting a five under 67. The scores: First round: 1. Harinder Gupta (65), 2. Amandeep Singh Malik (66), 3. Manav Jaini, Harmeet Kahlon (67 each), 5. Amandeep Johl (69), 6. Mukesh Kumar, Gurbaaz Mann, Amritender Singh, Sujjan Singh, Ali Sher, Vivek Bhandari (70 each), 12. S.S.P. Chowrasia, Randhir Gotra, Dipendar Khullar, B.G. Lalitha Kumara, G.S. Sethi, Karanjit Singh, Arjun Singh, S. Madaiah and Gaganjeet Bhullar (71 each). Amateurs: 1. R.N.
