Dangs tense after torching of `idols'
Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD:
Tension gripped many parts of Gujarat, particularly the tribal-dominated district of Dangs following a relay dharna by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Golwalkar.
The VHP has been on dharna in front of the Dangs District Collector's office at Ahwa for the last few days in protest against the alleged torching of some bamboo poles worshipped by tribal Hindus as idols.
The VHP has said it will continue the agitation till December 31.
Local Christians have termed the dharna an attempt to disrupt Christmas celebrations.
A "peace committee" meeting convened by Collector R.M. Jadhav at Ahwa on Tuesday ended in more wrangles.
