Court will not extend CAS deadline

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court refused to extend the December 31 deadline for implementation of the Conditional Access System for viewing satellite television in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

A Division Bench, comprising Justices M. K. Sharma and Hima Kohli, dismissed two petitions by Star Broadband Services Limited and Shakti, an NGO, which sought an extension on the ground that laying of fibre optic cable had not yet been completed.

CAS will be implemented on an experimental basis in south Delhi. It has already been implemented in Chennai.
