ADILABAD: Adilabad Consumer Forum on Tuesday awarded compensation of Rs. 3 lakhs to C. Rajesh, 16, a student from Mancherial for the disability, mental agony and financial loss he had suffered due to negligence of a Registered Medical Practitioner. According to the complainant, Rajesh was administered wrong injections for an allergy. - Staff Reporter

APERC hearings

HYDERABAD: The AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) will conduct public hearings in January 2007 involving those who have made written requests in their suggestions following notices issued on December 11. The hearing will be conducted here on January 22 at the APERC Court Hall. Other venues and dates are: Guntur (January 23), Eluru (24), Sangareddy (27) and Nizamabad (29).- Special Correspondent

Research grant

WARANGAL: Kakatiya University pharmacy professor A.V.N. Appa Rao has been sanctioned research grant of 1 lakh Swedish krona per year for three years by the Swedish Research Council. He will work on a project with Professor Olov Sterner of Sweden under Swedish Research Links programme. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The media was not allowed to cover the 64th State-level Dak Adalat organised at the Dak Sadan, Office of the Chief Postmaster General here to redress grievances of people from across the State. Health varsity convocation

VIJAYAWADA: The 11th annual convocation of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences will be held here on February 28, 2007.

Candidates keen on obtaining degrees can get applications forms from the Health University offices in Vijayawada and Hyderabad from January 5. The duly filled in forms should be submitted on or before January 30.

Ryot ends life

WARANGAL: A farmer of Gadipelli village in Sangem mandal ended his life by consuming poison on Monday night. The farmer, Gosula Ravi (30), is survived by wife Suguna. Financial problems could be the reason for his extreme step, police said. - Staff Reporter

NTPC units restored

HYDERABAD: Power supply in the State registered a slight improvement following restoration of the two units of the NTPC's Simhadri Thermal Power Station at Visakhapatnam, which tripped on Saturday. With this, 1,000 mw of installed capacity was added to the grid. The duration of power cut is being reduced wherever possible. - Special Correspondent

Mystery death

Vijayawada: An Intermediate student died under mysterious circumstances in the hostel of a corporate college late on Monday. The issue came to light on Tuesday when family members of the victim lodged a complaint with the Patamata police. The police said Gajjela Vivek (19) of Warangal studying in Chaitanya Junior College collapsed on the floor while appearing for an internal examination on Monday night. He was taken to a private hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Sarpanch poll results

TIRUPATI: Government has declared results of the elections held recently to four Tirupati (urban) panchayats viz; Rajivnagar, TN Palem, Settipalle and Muthyala Reddypalle.

Following have been elected sarpanches: Anna Malleswari for Rajivnagar panchayat (her election was unanimous as they was no other contestant), Aadam Sudhakar Reddy for T.N. Palem, Munikrishna for Settipalle and Mamatha for M.R.Palle.

Kadapa: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths arrested Kadapa rythu bazar estate officer Rajeswar Reddy on Tuesday when he allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from K. Veeramma of Palempalle for allotting a kirana shop in the rythu bazaar although Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande had issued sanction orders.

Rajeswara Reddy would be produced in Special ACB Court at Nellore on Wednesday.— Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Advocates boycotted Kadapa courts on Tuesday decrying an attack on a colleague by two accused persons on the district court premises. They decried beating up of an advocate Obanna by accused Meesala Sekhar and Chinna Venkata Subbaiah alleging that he argued against them. — Staff Reporter

Man killed in accident

KADAPA: An unidentified man was crushed to death when the lorry atop which he was travelling overturned near Sarapudinne in Atlur mandal on Tuesday. — Staff Reporter

Youth run over

KURNOOL: A youth identified as Mohammad was knocked down by a tractor at Adoni on Tuesday. He died on the spot. — Special Correspondent
