HYDERABAD: The controversy over increasing the discharge capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator for diversion of Krishna water to Rayalaseema has surfaced once again with the Telugu Desam Party and the TRS separately demanding that the Government immediately stop the ongoing works. Congress MLA P. Janardhan Reddy also joined issue with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, demanding that the works be stopped. At separate press conferences, the TDP, TRS and Congress leaders were unanimous in their view that the brisk pace of works on Pothireddypadu head regulator was bound to harm the interests of Telangana and Andhra regions. The TDP deputy leader, T. Devender Goud, fired a fresh salvo at the Government by criticising it for issuing GO 206 last month increasing the cost estimate of the ongoing work from Rs. 1,252 crores to Rs 2,155 crores. He questioned why the estimates were increased when there was no change in the project design. The TRS MLA, Nayani Narasimha Reddy, at another press conference observed that the Government appeared bent upon turning Telangana into a desert.
