Farewell function

KOLLAM: After serving Fatima Mata National College here in various capacities from lecturer to principal and manager for 46 years, A.J. Rozario is bidding adieu to the institution. A grand send-off is being organised for him at the college on Thursday The function will be inaugurated by Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran, an alumnus. Mukesh's memoirs

KOLLAM: The memoirs of film actor Mukesh, `Mukesh Kathakal: Jeevithathilay Nerum Narmavum,' will be released by Education Minister M.A. Baby at a function to be held at S.N. College here on December 21 by handing over a copy to actor-writer V.K. Sreeraman. The book is published by Olive Publications. Mukesh is a former student of the college. - Staff Reporter

Holiday for schools

THRISSUR: Schools in the Thrissur corporation and Chalakudy municipal limits will remain closed on Wednesday in connection with the visit of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, according to an official press release from District Collector M. Beena. Tenth class examinations in schools, except the Chalakudy Carmel Higher Secondary School, would, however, be conducted, the Collector said. — Staff Reporter

`BJP ready for talks'

THRISSUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready for peace talks in the wake of increasing BJP-CPI(M) clashes in the district, BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas has said. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Krishnadas said the BJP would sincerely take part in the all-party peace meeting called by the District Collector on December 22. Selected for award

KOZHIKODE: Environmental activist and the former Dean (students affairs) of the University of Calicut A. Achyuthan has been selected for the Guru Green Award for his work in the field of environmental protection. The award, comprising a citation and a cash prize of Rs.5,000, has been instituted by the Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College Old Students' Association. P.K.S. Raja, scion of the Zamorin royal family, will present the award on Sunday.
