VISAKHAPATNAM: An attempt to hold a grama sabha by the district administration of Vizianagaram on the proposed acquisition of lands for refinery project of Jindal South West Aluminium Limited was foiled by the locals at Bharatapuram near S.Kota on Tuesday. Vizianagaram Joint Collector M. Jaganmohan and Revenue Divisional Officer M.V. Govinda Raju were not allowed to elicit opinion on the project as the villagers from Bharatapuram, Bhodawada, Musidipalli raised slogans against them. Slogans like "Jindal agents go back" rent the air. A large number of CPI activists and Samata field coordinator Makireddi Ramana were also present. CPI Vizianagaram district secretary P. Kameswara Rao alleged that the RDO had been camping in S.Kota area for several days to convince the villagers to surrender their lands in exchange for cash compensation. He said the villagers were not interested in further displacement after their relocation due to Thatipudi reservoir project.
