Pradeep Kumar to lead Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Midfielder R. Pradeep Kumar of Nilgiris will captain the Tamil Nadu side in the inter-zone phase of the junior National football championship for the Dr B.C. Roy Trophy to be held at the Pant Stadium, Bhilai, in Chhattisgarh from December 20 to 31.

Tamil Nadu, which is the South Zone winner, has been placed in Group `A' along with host Chhattisgarh, Goa and Punjab.

Under-19 CC posts win

R. Balaji and S. Aravindhan scored half-centuries as Under-19 CC defeated TUK Arts CC by 80 runs in a TNCA-Thanjavur DCA first division league match here.

The scores: Under-19 CC 170 for nine in 40 overs (R. Balaji 54, S. Aravindhan 51, Karthi four for 37) bt TUK Arts CC 90 in 19 overs.

K.K. Computers 154 in 29 overs (Anand 69) lost to Under-17 CC 158 for eight in 33 overs (Bala Karthi 57 not out, Anand four for 33).

Kapil Dev CC 143 in 33 overs (Sathyaseelan 59) lost to RVM CC 144 for nine in 37 overs (R.R. Kalidoss 57).

Challengers 182 in 40 overs (Prabhu four for 45) lost to TUK Arts 183 for five in 39 overs (B. Kabilan 60 not out, Prabhu 54).

RVM CC 202 for seven in 35 overs (P. Sakthi 57, K. Anabalagan 42, Srinivasan four for 65) bt Ganesh CC 97 in 33 overs.

Under-19 CC 200 in 42 overs (S. Aravindhan 51, R. Rameshpandi 40, Varadharajan four for 30, T. Aravind four for 35) bt Under-17 CC 190 in 40 overs.

BHC men triumph

Host Bishop Heber College and Holy Cross College won the men's and women's titles respectively at the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate tennis tournament in Tiruchi.

Final: Bishop Heber bt Jamal Mohammed 2-0 (Aravind bt Joshua 8-3; J. Tony bt Jhony Basha 8-3).

Semifinals: Bishop Heber bt School of Engineering 2-0 (Aravind bt Rajalingam 8-3; J. Tony bt Shahul 8-2); Jamal Mohammed bt Urumu Dhanalakshmi 2-0 (Jhony Basha bt Ramesh 8-4; Joshua bt Ravi 8-1).
