Sangoli, Nadagada to be developed

BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to develop Sangoli and Nadagada villages where the freedom fighter Sangoli Rayanna spent most of his life.

Both villages in Belgaum district will be developed by spending Rs. 9.58 crore. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa will inaugurate development works next month, Minister for Water Resources K.S. Eshwarappa told presspersons here on Tuesday. — Special Correspondent

KAT vacation Bench to sit next week

BANGALORE: Chairman of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal A.V. Srinivasa Reddy will be the vacation judge for the winter vacation from December 22 to 29.

Mr. Reddy will be sitting in Court No.1 on December 27 and will hear urgent matters and such other matters as the Bench may direct. During the vacation, the office of the tribunal will function till 2 p.m. On the day the vacation Bench sits the office will function till 5 p.m., according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

Congress form fact-finding panel

BANGALORE: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge has constituted a fact-finding committee to determine the cause of an altercation between cotton farmers and the police that led to the farmers being lathi-charged in Haveri on Monday.

Congress spokesman V.S. Ugrappa said in a release here on Tuesday that the committee, headed by the former minister T.B. Jayachandra, would conduct an inquiry into the incident. — Staff Reporter

Industrial seminar

HASSAN: A two-day seminar on the Industry-Institute Partnership Cell programme was held at Malnad College of Engineering under the aegis of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and AICTE (All India Counsel for Technical Education). The programme was inaugurated by Chief General Manager of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Mysore, R. Jagannathan. Water supply

DAVANGERE: P.T. Parameshwara Naika, MLA, has said that 21 villages in Harpanahalli would soon be provided with Tungabhadra river water for drinking purposes under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Drinking Water Supply Scheme. Mr. Naika told presspersons at Harpanahalli on Tuesday that Rs. 42.6 crore had been sanctioned for the comprehensive development of Harpanahalli taluk, of which Rs. 4.9 crore had been earmarked for the provision of drinking water to 21 villages. The amount, which was a joint contribution of both the State Government and the Union Government, would be used for the improvement of rural roads as well as other works in the taluk, he said.

Birth anniversary

BIDAR: Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram will celebrate the 154th birth anniversary of Sharada Devi, by felicitating 154 women from Below Poverty Line families and by giving them gifts on December 22. Head of the ashram Sri Nirbhayananda Saraswati Swamiji and other senior Seers such as Sri Veereshananda Saraswati Swamiji and Sri Sumedhanandaji Maharaj will deliver lectures on the occasion.
