Khadi exhibition begins

THRISSUR: An exhibition organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board and the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Association began at the Thekkinkad Maidan here on Tuesday.

In all, 32 units functioning under the Association and 80 beneficiaries of the Union Government's Rural Employment Generation Programme display their wares at the exhibition..

"The organisers expect sale to the tune of Rs.1 crore within 20 days. Thousands of people visited the exhibition on Monday evening. Some of the stalls had sales of Rs.15,000 each. We expect about 10 lakh people to attend the exhibition in the next two weeks," said V. Kesavan, secretary of the Association.

The products on display include khadi cloth, trendy khadi readymade garments, herbal medicines, honey and leather goods. Some Kudumbashree units and cottage industries too display their wares. Khadi products will get 30 per cent and silk 20 per cent discount.
