ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha additional district and sessions court on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment Ajayan, Kaithavalappil Puthen Veedu, Alappuzha and Raja Kalarikkal Neelipparambil, Alappuzha, who are the first and second accused respectively in Star Tech Cable Network office attack case in which two persons were killed. Two workers of Star Tech, Umesh (19) and Binoy (22) were killed when the accused set fire to the office of Star Tech at Thondankulamgara here in 2000. Special prosecutor G. Priyadarshan Thampy and prosecutor P.V. Thomas argued that the accused set fire to the office fully knowing that the two workers of Star Tech were inside and pleaded for punishment for them. Judge P. Sankaranunni held the accused guilty of the offence on Monday. In the detailed judgment pronounced on Tuesday, the judge also imposed a fine of Rs.2 lakh each on the accused. The court ordered that the Rs.4 lakh collected from the accused should be given equally to the dependents of the victims. All the seven witnesses in the case turned hostile. However, the court pronounced the accused guilty based on the circumstantial evidence and other documents presented by the prosecution.
