HYDERABAD: A bill empowering the Government to annul the transactions entered into by the Telugu Desam Government with M/s IMG Bharata, the sports management company, and take over the 850 acres of land given to the company was passed by the Assembly on Tuesday night. Piloting the Andhra Pradesh Government Property (preservation, protection and resumption) Bill, 2006, Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao said the previous Government tried to handover lands worth over Rs. 15,000 crores on a platter and the entire deal was settled within four days of the company's inception in the State. It was also proposed to handover nine stadia, with an estimated construction value of Rs. 123 crores, in addition to doling out several incentives to the company that had paid up capital of only Rs. 1 lakh.
Heated debate
The House witnessed a heated debate when the TDP member D. Narendra Kumar objected to the Minister's criticism. He said the present Government had decided to hand over the same land to M/s Infosys at a throwaway price now. He also questioned the present Government's intentions in giving away over 1 lakh acres of lands in the name of industrial development. The Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy read out portions of the deal with IMG Bharata that incorporated clauses against the interests of the State.
