Novel protest by MRPS activists
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Several leaders and activists of the breakaway group of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS), including president Krupakar Madiga, on Tuesday had their heads tonsured at Indira Park in a novel protest, demanding categorisation of Scheduled Castes. The demands include constitution of a national committee to look into categorisation and make recommendations for time-bound modalities to be followed.
Mr. Krupakar recalled that after the Ramachandra Raju Commission recommendations in 1995, the categorisation and attendant reservations for SCs had already been implemented, but was given up in the recent past.
The protestors demanded `dismissal' of ministers and legislators belonging to the Mala community who, the leaders stated, were obstructing categorisation on the grounds that it would benefit Madigas more.
