Horticulture officials suspended

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: An Assistant Director and a Horticulture Officer have been placed under suspension for alleged irregularities in the implementation of the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) programme in Prakasam and Mahabubnagar districts, Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy informed the Assembly on Tuesday.

The Horticulture Officer of Ulavapadu mandal in Prakasam district was charged with misappropriation of Rs. 1.32 lakhs meant for the NHM in collusion with the village secretary and diverting the money to benami beneficiaries. The Assistant Director of Horticulture in Mahabubnagar was suspended on similar grounds. The Minister gave this information while replying to a short notice question tabled by M. Maheedhar Reddy (Congress).

Mr. Maheedhar Reddy lamented that there was no regular review of the progress of NHM.
