Madikeri: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lead a delegation to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to urge the Government to withdraw the controversial circular issued by the Revenue Secretary with regard to "Jamma Bane" lands in the district, apart from initiating steps to solve other burning issues concerning Kodagu. Party MLAs K.G. Bopaiah and H.D. Basavaraj told presspersons here on Tuesday that certain important decisions were taken at a high-level meeting held recently in Bangalore regarding Kodagu, in which Kodagu district in-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda was present. Mr. Bopaiah said Revenue Secretary S.M. Jamdaar had issued a circular a few days after the meeting stating that "Jamma Bane" lands belonged to the Government not landholders. It was unfortunate. People opposed such a move. The delegation would meet Mr. Kumaraswamy in Bangalore on December 28. Mr. Basavaraj wondered why such a circular was issued a few days after the Bangalore meeting. The Government must withdraw the circular to clear the confusion over the people's mind and continue with the past practice. The Government would be apprised of the need to provide all basic facilities to the tribal people in the forests without relocating them, Mr. Basavaraj said. The Chief Minister would be told to take steps to divert or change the proposed 400 kV double-circuit power line running from Kaiga to Kerala via the Nagarahole National Park. The project, now being envisaged by Power Grid Corporation of India, would turn out to be a potential danger to the environment and people of the district. Mr. Kumaraswamy would be requested to get an information technology firm started in the district, he added. Kodagu Zilla Panchayat vice-president B.C. Neelamma, party spokesman M.B. Devaiah and general secretary Sunil Subramani were present.
