KURNOOL: TDP district president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy staged a day-long sit-in at the statue of NTR at the Collectorate here on Tuesday urging the Government to supply water for rabi crop under the KC canal. Mr. Reddy, S.V. Mohan Reddy and others took out a rally from the TDP office to the Collectorate. After garlanding NTR's statue, Mr. Reddy and his supporters staged a sit-in till evening. He said the Government had done great injustice to farmers of KC canal by diverting their quota of water to Anantapur district through GO No. 3. He criticised Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for refusing water to farmers under the KC canal on the ground that the farmers utilised their quota during kharif season. He said water supply during floods from Srisailam reservoir was no match for release of 10 tmcft from TB dam in the rabi season.
Padayatra
He announced padayatra to highlight the issue in February. The padayatra would begin from five places in the district and culminate in a rally at Nandyal. Mr. Reddy alleged that the ruling party leaders failed to bring to the notice of the Chief Minister during the latter's visit to Srisailam the plight of farmers. Party leaders raised slogans demanding the government to withdraw the GO.
