Temple idol damaged

RAMANATHAPURAM: Tension prevailed in Keelakarai near here on Tuesday after an idol of Goddess Pechiamman of Sri Madasamy Temple was damaged. Police reinforcements were sent to all sensitive areas of the district.

An eyewitness told The Hindu that a miscreant, who entered the temple at about 6 a.m., broke the 3-foot stone idol immediately after the temple was opened for the day.

Mohamed Feroskhan (37), son of Mohamed Mydeen of South Street in Thirupalakudi, was taken into custody for damaging the idol.
