DSS wants airport named after Ambedkar

GULBARGA: Members of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Bhim Vada) on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here demanding the State Government to name the proposed airport in Gulbarga district at Srinivas Saradgi village as Dr. Ambedkar Airport.

The DSS membersled by district convener Chidanand G. Wali came in a procession and submitted a memorandum to the district authorities addressed to the Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The memorandum pointed out that the long pending demand of the Dalits in the region for naming Gulbarga University after Dr. Ambedkar had not been approved. The State Government should at least name the proposed Gulbarga Airport as Dr. Ambedkar Airport.

The memorandum also demanded the Government to direct the district administration and the Gulbarga City Corporation to sanction additional 100-feet land in the back portion of the Ambedkar Statue in Jagat Circle in the city for developing a garden and constructing a compound wall.
