Construction worker paid compensation

Principal Correspondent

HASSAN: District unit general secretary of the Karnataka Gare Cooly Karmikara Sangha (KGCKS) Yogish Gowda has said in a press release that contractor V. Krishna Murthy paid a compensation of Rs. 20,000 to construction worker Manjula in the presence of State association president H.V. Swamy on Monday.

It may be recalled that two years ago, on June 7, 2004, Manjula, while working on the second floor of a building, whose construction was being supervised by Mr. Krishna Murthy, had slipped and fallen, and had fractured her hip.

She was given medical aid, but she was crippled and lost the use of both her legs.

Mr. Gowda said Mr. Murthy had insured his workers before starting the construction work and had provided them the right to claim compensation in case of accidents.

He also appealed to building contractors to insure their workers against accidents to avoid such complications.
