NIZAMABAD: Only 35 per cent of the population are getting bank assistance while the rest are forced to approach private financiers for loans. Similarly, out of the 4.60 lakh families in the district, only 55 per cent families have bank accounts. Speaking at the District Bankers' Consultative Committee meeting here on Tuesday, district Collector I.S. Sri Naresh asked the officials concerned to motivate the rest of the families to open bank accounts by March-end. All banks put together had extended Rs.72 crores at the rate of 25 np to the Self Help Groups, he said, and asked the banks to give Rs.10,000 to each shelter less family to construct houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme. Sudheer, General Manager of the State Bank of Hyderabad, said the bank will be introducing smart card system from April 1 to enable the rural people to draw amount from banks. P. Chinatataiah, Project Director of Indira Kranthi Patham, Hanmantha Rao, chairman of the Deccan Grameen Bank, Ramasubramaniam, NABARD Assistant General Manager, Gururaj, Lead Bank Manager and representatives from 24 banks attended.
