HYDERABAD: A one-day `Hyderabad Youth Summit' with the objective of raising civic consciousness among the young is to be held jointly by departments of MCH, HUDA, Traffic Police, Collectorate and HMWSSB at the People's Plaza on Necklace road on December 30.

Quiz competitions, exhibition on environment and civic issues, contests on debating, city slogan writing, painting, rangoli, mehendi, fancy dress for junior students will be held for individual and team events concluding with rock bands towards the evening.

    Logo

The event will also see students of 10th, 11th and 12th classes take up counting of six lakh ballot papers polled for choosing a logo of a select four, said MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju after a meeting with managements of about 150 schools and colleges on Tuesday.

"We want the young to get exposed to the democratic process and also generate curiosity and awareness about various civic issues. Their involvement will also help us get some innovative ideas," he explained.

The summit was part of a "process to evolve participation of all sections of people in instilling a sense of civic sense" to ensure the new infrastructure coming up like modern toilets, foot overbridges, etc., is better utilised, he maintained.

All the events, to be held in English, Hindi and Urdu will be sponsored and Government money will not be spent for the summit. Famed `K' circle will conduct the quiz and other contests too might be given to institutions capable of conducting them based on the response.

Each educational institution or corporate can send one team of three members each and there will be many prizes -- team and consolation prizes up for grabs.

    Nine competitions

Entries for the nine different kinds of competitions can be registered through www.ourmch.com or the forms can be downloaded and sent to the office of Additional Commissioner of Health and Sanitation, fourth floor, MCH head office or call on 040-23222160 during working hours.

Mr. Jaju has also in mind a `Kids summit' for children studying below seventh class and another for the residential welfare associations sometime early next year as part of his mission.
