KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) on Tuesday warned of a nation-wide strike on December 31 and January 1 if the Government failed to take back all "unilateral political decisions" by December 30. The Maoists announced the move at the end of a six-hour general strike here to protest the Government's nominations of Ambassadors to 14 countries and the chief of the National Human Rights Commission. They said that such nominations, "forceful" restoration of the police posts in villages and transfer of top civil servants were against the understanding reached between them and the ruling Seven Party Alliance that any major political appointment would be made only after they (Maoists) joined the interim government.
Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said "such unilateral nominations by the Government were against the past understanding and could seriously affect the ongoing peace process."
