NEW DELHI: The Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, B.L. Joshi, has approved a proposal to set up a separate Delhi Health Service for medical practitioners under the allopathic system of medicine. Announcing this on Tuesday, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said the process of formation of Delhi Health Service regulations would soon be initiated with the Union Public Service Commission. The new service will cover all the civil posts of medical practitioners under the allopathic system of medicine that are currently borne on the strength of the Government of Delhi and are being paid from the Consolidated Fund of Delhi. The Minister said that during the intervening period the members of the Central Health Service who are currently being paid from the Consolidated Fund of Delhi under the existing arrangement with the Central Government would be subject to disciplinary control of the L-G. The members of the Central Health Service will also be liable to work on any post to which they are posted by the competent authority in the Government of Delhi and be entitled to their existing grade pay or such increases as may be allowed to them by the competent authority.
Dr. Shastri said the Department of Health and Family Welfare had been directed to take consequential steps including holding of consultations with the UPSC
