Taking care of man's best friend
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
There are those who hate stray dogs and those who love them. Some are so concerned about the welfare of stray dogs in their area that they ensure that the dogs are fed every day.
In an unusual birthday tribute to their leader, fans of Binnypet MLA V. Somanna fed over 400 stray dogs in the area. Members of Karnataka Vidyarthi Okkoota, who believe that canines are man's closest friends, fed the dogs of Vijaynagar bread and milk worth Rs. 10,000. Okkoota convenor Dileep Ichanahalli said the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's "Swacha Bangalore" programme has affected stray dogs the most. "With most roads being made `bin-less,' stray dogs hardly get anything to eat. Human beings can even beg for food if required. But stray dogs can neither chew grass like cattle nor hunt for food like wild animals. They get to eat only if man is generous enough to give them some food. And the dog that manages to grab the food is the winner," he added.
