A bonanza on the anvil

Mumbai: The partnership between the Royal Western India Turf Club and Diageo India Ltd, has culminated in the running of The Johnnie Walker Indian 2000 Guineas, the second Classic of the Mumbai season to be held here on Sunday (Dec. 24).

For the first time at a racing event anywhere in India a bumper prize — Bayliner Speed Boat, with buyback option, is on offer to the public — who nominate correctly the first four horses in the 2000 Guineas.

It will be a day of glitz, with prizes, live entertainment and the best dressed lady will get a gold bar.

A top attraction will be the display of the McLaren Formula One racing car, as the starting journey for the Johnnie Walker-McLaren Mercedes India tour, the Silver Phantom from the Rolls Royce stable will also adorn the turf.

The Johnnie Walker Day will be a rare all trophy card, with four races sponsored by Johnnie Walker.

A record attendance is expected to savour one of the finest days of racing at the Mahalaxmi.
