WARM WELCOME: Vinayak Dalvi who clinched a bronze medal in the men's Greco-Roman wrestling competition at the Asian Games in Doha, with his parents in Belgaum on Wednesday.
Belgaum: Vinayak Dalvi who clinched a bronze medal in the men's Greco- Roman wrestling event of the Asian Games in Doha recently was accorded a warm welcome here on Wednesday. The 21-year-old wrestler from the city won his last bout in the 55 kg category on December 10. He beat Rinat (3-1) with 11 technical points as against eight by his opponent to bag the medal. On his arrival here at Belgaum Railway station, social organisations took him and in a procession to Deputy Commissioner's Office premises where he was accorded felicitations by the zilla panchayat and the Department of Youth Services and Sports. The felicitation was offered by Lok Sabha member Suresh C. Angadi. Additional Superintendent of Police S.K. Hegde and Assistant Director of the Youth Services and Sports Baswaraj were present. It was a proud moment for Prahlad Hanmanth Dalvi and Dhrupada Dalvi for their only son had realised his dream of bagging an international medal in wrestling.
