Solid waste management programme

BELLARY: S.H. Choudhary, Commissioner, City Municipal Corporation, Bellary, has said that solid waste management programme has been launched with the help of 54 self-help groups (SHGs). He also appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to ensure cleanliness in the city.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said an action plan for solid waste management had been approved and Rs. 1.02 crore had been released.

Of this, Rs. 99.58 lakh had been spent on tools and equipment, six vehicles, 84 containers, 103 tricycles, 154 push carts, 3,600 brooms, 900 metal trays and 460 buckets. Solid waste generated in the city was put at 129 tonnes a day and around 80 tonnes of garbage was being lifted daily, he said.
