BANGALORE: T. Dhruthi stunned top seed Nikitha Telkar on Wednesday to advance into the girls' under-12 singles final of the Mahila Seva Samaja State-ranking junior tennis tournament here. The top two seeds in the girls' under-18 singles, Akansha Kohli and Nimisha Mohan entered the final in contrasting styles. While top seed Akansha was taken to the distance by M.P. Nitha before she won in three sets, the second-seeded Nimisha had it easy against Tachita Sarda. The results: Girls (semifinals): Under-10: Nikitha Telkar bt T. Dhruthi 6-2, 1-6, 6-1; Anchal Machani bt Thangam Chandy 6-4, 6-3; Under-12: T. Dhruthi bt Nikita Telker 2-6, 6-4, 6-0; Preethi Gokhale bt Sahana Shroff 6-0, 6-2; Under-18: Akansha Kohli bt M.P. Nitha 2-6, 6-2, 6-1; Nimisha Mohan bt Tachita Sarda 6-1, 6-0. Boys: Under-18 (quarterfinals): A.M. Suraj bt Pranav 6-3, 6-2; B. Santosh bt Sahul Anwer 6-2, 6-4.
State-level kabaddi
Thirty-four teams will feature in the second State-level floodlit kabaddi tournament, organised by Sree Krishnadevaraya Sports Club, at the Jaraganahalli School grounds, Yelachenahalli, Kanakapura Road, from December 21 to 25.
Big win for ASC
ASC Centre & College registered a thumping 7-0 win over National Public School & College in the Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar-KSFA inter-collegiate football tournament here. Scoring at regular intervals, ASC got the goals through Kiran (2), Bahadur, Karthik, Ashish, Nitesh and Karunakaran. In another match, Al-Ameen College scored its second win, also by a big margin against Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC). Christopher (2), Enosh, Arnol and Alex struck in Al Ameen's 5-0 victory.
Double for Manjula
U. Manjula of Tumkur District won the 200m sprint and high jump events in the Karnataka State Police annual sports meet here on Wednesday. In the men's section, Ganesh of KSRP topped in the 1500m race while Venkatesh of Bangalore City Police won the rifle shooting event with 144 points.
