Government `most lethargic', info about non-locals available, says CPI leader

HYDERABAD: Members from opposition parties criticised the non-implementation of the 610 GO citing several violations of the six-point formula, pushing the Government on the defensive in the Assembly on Wednesday.

Participating in the debate on implementation of GO 610 which seeks to repatriate non-locals from Telangana, CPI floor leader Ch. Venkata Reddy said the Government was "most lethargic" in enforcing the order which would benefit the people from Telangana immensely. He said there was inordinate delay though sufficient information about non-locals was available with the Police and Education departments.

CPI (M) floor leader N. Narasimhaiah, who initiated the debate demanded a timeframe for the Cabinet Sub-Committee, House Committee and official panel that were constituted to monitor implementation of the GOHe regretted that the GO was completely ignored in the appointment of judicial officers.

Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM) regretted that only 60 out of some 3,000 non-local police personnel working in Hyderabad, were repatriated so far. He complained that officials holding key positions in Secretariat were manipulating data regarding the non-locals.

No benefit

He said Hyderabad did not benefit out of its merger with the State.

He demanded appointment of a Telangana person as deputy Chief Minister.

T. Harish Rao (TRS) wanted severe action to be initiated against officials not providing data on non-locals.

P. Janardhan Reddy (Congress) wondered how not many from Telangana were selected for IAS and IPS services and asked "is selection process wrong?"
