Narayana denied bail

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sardar Mohan Rao on Wednesday rejected the bail application of CPI State secretary K. Narayana and 53 others who were arrested when they barged into a rice and oil godown and tried to distribute the stocks among the poor. They have been remanded to judicial custody till December 29.

Two hurt in clash

KADAPA: Two persons were injured and two sheep butchered when rival groups hurled bombs and stones at each other on Wednesday following a dispute over a borewell in Keerthipalle village of Veerapunayunipalle mandal. The police recovered two hunting sickles on searching houses of those who clashed. - Staff Reporter

Mines unearthed

KADAPA: Police have unearthed three claymore mines along Lakkireddipalle-Pandillapalle road near Gandhamvaripalle village. Lakkireddipalle SI Ramanji Naik and special party SI Ravi Kumar detected the mines and defused them. - Staff Reporter

Maoists surrender

ANANTAPUR: Three Maoists surrendered before Superintendent of Police M.S. Ravindra on Wednesday. They said they had given up vexed with caste discrimination in the party, vacuum in ideology and lack of moral leadership. Panel appointed to probe APIIC scam

HYDERABAD: The State Government has appointed Justice Vamana Rao, a former High Court judge, as commission of enquiry to go into the alleged irregularities with regard to the financial district at Poppalaguda of the APIIC. He will also look into exclusion of Kondapur from jurisdiction of Cyberabad Development Authority. The report will be given within three months. - Special Correspondent

Lecturers' demands

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Affiliated College Teachers' Association and Andhra Pradesh Aided Degree College Lecturers' Association have demanded withdrawal of G.O. 35 that bans recruitment in aided colleges. Child throttled

KADAPA: A labourer of Guntur allegedly throttled a two-year-old boy to death after attempting to molest the boy's mother in Yanadi Colony in Proddatur on Wednesday. Ulagappa allegedly tried to molest Gangamma of Chinnacheppali village on Tuesday midnight. When she resisted, her son Ramanjaneyulu woke up and cried following which Ulagappa strangled him to death. - Staff Reporter

3 killed in road accident

KADAPA: Three youths were killed in a head-on collision between a gypsum-laden lorry and an autorickshaw on a bridge across Papaghni river near Kamalapuram town on Wednesday. According to the police, Kiran (19) of Kamalapuram, Subbarayudu of Proddatur died on the spot and Suresh (21) of Kommanapalle Dalitawada in Vallur mandal, who were travelling in the auto, succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. - Staff Reporter

Mega job mela

HYDERABAD: The Kurnool Zilla Parishad will organise a `mega' job mela on December 27 for the unemployed in the 18-30 age group. L. Venkata Swamy, chairman, said in a press release here that SSC failed and graduates can attend the mela. - Special Correspondent
