Decision on Wage Boards welcomed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Union of Journalists has welcomed the Union Government's decision to set up new Wage Boards for journalists and non-journalist employees of newspapers.

In a statement, the DUJ expressed the hope the Wage Boards would start functioning at the earliest and also announce interim relief. Also it hoped that a Media Commission would be set up soon to look into the immensely changed media scenario.

Hooda to honour girls

NEW DELHI: The Haryana Government is organising a State level function to honour 102 girls for their exceptional achievements during 2006 which has been declared "Year of the Girl Child''. The function will be held at the Chief Minister's residence here in the Capital on Friday. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will present appreciation letters to the girl achievers from the State. The programme has been organised by the State Women and Child Development Department.

Protest march

NEW DELHI: Regional Rural Bank officers and employees staged a protest march to Parliament to press their long-pending demands on Wednesday. The march was organised on a call given by the All-India Gramin Bank Officers' Organisation and All-India Gramin Bank Workers Organisation for the employees of the Regional Rural Banks spread across 26 States.

The main demands of the RRB employees are parity in pay, allowances and salary and the constitution of National Rural Bank by amalgamating 102 Regional Rural Banks of the country.

Hospital inaugurated

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday opened its newly-constructed Rajiv Gandhi Ayurvedic Panchkarma Hospital at Old Rajinder Nagar in Central Delhi.

Inaugurating the hospital, Member of Parliament Krishna Tirath announced a grant of Rs.20 lakhs from her MP fund for construction of a new OPD block in the hospital.

Founder's day

NEW DELHI: Air Force School at Subroto Park here celebrated its 51st Founder's Day on Wednesday with a cultural function at the Air Force Auditorium. The programme was inaugurated by the Air Chief, S.P. Tyagi, and his wife Vandana.

Air Chief Marshal Tyagi distributed prizes to meritorious students. The Principal, S.K. Aggarwal, in his address said the objective of education is development of skills among students to enable them to become responsible citizens.
