VIJAYAWADA : Joint Collector S. Suresh Kumar on Wednesday announced that supply of commodities through fair price shops would be stopped to 12,895 white ration cardholders residing in the limits of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, as they failed to undergo an iris scan. Mr. Kumar, in a statement here, said ration cards were distributed in the city after conducting an iris scan to beneficiaries at Designated Photography Location centres in December, 2005 and later found that cards were issued to 31,541 beneficiaries who did not undergo the iris scan. Though two DPL centres were run for 45 days to cover the beneficiaries, only 18,646 cardholders had their iris scanned. The list of cardholders who failed to go for iris scanning was displayed at fair price shops.
