HYDERABAD: Four robbers struck at a farmer's house in Shamshabad early on Wednesday and made away with gold jewellery and cash, all worth over Rs.1.30 lakh. The intruders entered the house of M. Narasimha Reddy from the rear by scaling the compound wall and were planning to break open the door. At the same time, Mr. Reddy's wife Anasuya opened the door at 2.30 a.m. to attend to nature's call. On seeing them, she immediately went inside and locked the doors. But the offenders, wearing monkey caps, damaged the windowpanes and threatened the couple that they would kill them if they did not open the door. A worried Mr. Reddy handed over the gold jewellery weighing 13 tolas and Rs.10,000 in cash to them from the window.
Break door
They later broke open the door with a pestle, tied Mr. Reddy to a chair with bending wire and ransacked household articles in search of more gold ornaments. However, they managed to get only a small gold ring in the almirah. They snatched a mobile phone from the farmer and vanished from the scene, Shamshabad Inspector M. Ramachandrudu said. Police officials said rabbit hunters could be behind the incident as a bending wire, which is used for netting rabbits, was recovered from the spot. Moreover, two families that were famous in hunting these animals and were staying in makeshift huts near the farmer's house vacated the place two days ago, he added.
