CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has revoked the suspension of the former Principal District Sessions Judge of Tirunelveli, K. Naganathan, and posted him as Additional Director of the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy in Chennai. Sources said the two-Judge committee, appointed by the High Court, reported that the drunken behaviour of the subordinate judicial officer had not been made out. However, the committee ruled "he had exceeded his limits and acted far beyond his jurisdiction."
Transferred
Revoking his suspension, the court said: "Considering the report, the suspension is revoked and he, on his own request to transfer him outside Tirunelveli, is now posted as Additional Director of the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy." Mr. Naganathan and G. Nagarajan, who was Judicial Magistrate IV of Tirunelveli, were suspended by the High Court for their alleged misdemeanour on the night of December 8 and the early hours of December 9. Mr. Nagarajan will continue in the same post.
Report submitted
Following representations and agitations by lawyers in Tirunelveli, Chennai and other places, the court deputed Justice Dharma Rao Elipe and Justice M. Thanikachalam to make a spot assessment of the situation. The Judges submitted their report on Wednesday.
Decision
welcomed
The Bar Council, the All India Bar Association, the Madras High Court Advocates Association, the Law Association and the Women Lawyers Association welcomed the decision to reinstate the suspended Judge.
