TAMBARAM
: Financial assistance, wheelchairs to the physically challenged and other aid were distributed to residents from different parts of the southern suburbs of Chennai at grievance day meetings at Pallavaram and Alandur on Wednesday.
The assistance and aid were worth nearly Rs. 8 lakhs.
Alandur MLA and Labour Welfare Minister T. M. Anbarasan, Kancheepuram Collector Pradeep Yadav, Tambaram MLA S.R. Raja, R. S. Bharathi and E. Karunanidhi, chairmen of Alandur and Pallavaram Municipalities respectively, were present at the functions.
Different schemes
The financial assistance extended to the beneficiaries was given under different schemes including the old age pension, marriage assistance scheme of the Social Welfare Department, distribution of wheelchairs to the physically challenged and loans to women members of self-help groups.
At Pallavaram and Alandur, more than 2,000 grievance petitions, pertaining to various problems, ranging from land documents to provision of road overbridges, were given by residents.
Activists also submitted their proposals on solid waste management and other problems relating to basic amenities.
