BANGALORE: Devamatha Central School, Banaswadi, held "Achiever's Meet" recently. Former international athlete Ashwini Nachappa, who was the chief guest, felicitated the outstanding athletes of the school and presented citations to the winners. "My present work is with children like you," she told the students. "What I can tell you is that you have the facilities to make it big in life," she said. Ms. Nachappa said what she was today was because of the values she imbibed from her parents and her active involvement in sports from young age. "It is only sports that teaches you take victory and defeat in the same spirit," she said. On the state of sports in the country, Ms. Nachappa stressed the need to give equal attention to all sports disciplines. "The pressure on performance is leading to a lot of problems for children. Let us remember we can only do well in academics only if the mind is free and sports has a big role to play in this. Success will follow," Ms. Nachappa said.
