GUNTUR: Tapping of non-conventional energy resources must increase to help preserve some of the conventional sources for the future generation, said District Education Officer Muvva Ramalingam here on Wednesday. At the valedictory of weeklong energy conservation awareness activities organised by Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NEDCAP) at the JKC College here, he said that every student must try to conserve conventional electricity and petroleum products and educate others on its need. "At a time when we are aiming at Moon Mission `Chandrayaan' it is a pity that we are still looking for sustainable sources of energy sources and our known sources are going to end in the coming 25 to 40 years," he observed.
Competitions
Guntur district manager of NEDCAP M. Harnadh said that tough solar and wind energy sources were in vogue for the past decade, only 2 per cent of the energy need was being met through all non-conventional sources, which had to multiply several fold. The corporation organised several competitions for school and college students during this week and their awareness was amazingly very high, he said. The winners of several competitions were given prizes.
Prizes given
The winners were: painting competition: S. Kruttika, RRK Jahnavi (Sri Venkateswara Balakuteer), E. Jithendranath Reddy (Little Flower) and O. Abhishek (Kanna EM School); Elocution competition: T. Parama Pavani (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan), Ch. Rajesh (Sri Satya Sai Vidya Niketan), Ch. Triveni (Hindu College High School), G. Sai Sowjanya (Kanna EMS); Essay writing: Ch.K.P. Anjani (BVB), K. Naga Praveen Reddy (SSVN), G. Anudha (Chinmaya Vidyalayam) and J. Naveena (Hindu College HS). Eco-conservation week was celebrated in JKC College and TJPS College and student winners of college-level competitions were presented prizes at both colleges, where the National Green Corps coordinator Tirupathi Reddy participated as the guest.
