Aimed at promoting book reading and making available latest books and publications from Eastern India and the National Capital Region, a 10-day book fair opens at the West Bengal pavilion in Delhi's Pragati Maidan this Friday.

Organised by the Bengal Association, New Delhi, in cooperation with the India Trade Promotion Organisation, the West Bengal Government and the Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, Kolkata, the fair will see the participation of leading publishers and booksellers from Eastern India as well as those based in the NCR.

While Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the book fair, Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal will be the chief guest.

Besides a debate on the challenges before the younger generation that will see the participation of research scholars and social workers, the book fair will also host an art workshop and an exhibition of paintings by alumni from the Calcutta College of Arts and paintings from earlier workshops.

A science exhibition is also being organised by the National Science Centre, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata, and Paschim Banga Bigyan Mancha. There will also be a discussion on theatre besides on-the-spot painting and story telling competitions. -- Madhur Tankha
