MAKING WAVES: Isha Koppikar
Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar may be making waves on the big screen but it is modelling that continues to be her first love. A much sought after model in her earlier avatar, the tall and fair actress was in the Capital this past week to participate in "Portfolio 2006" where fashion design students of the Pearl Academy of Fashion showcased their collections. Despite her hectic schedule, Isha is able to do the "balancing act" by fulfilling her acting assignments in Bollywood as well as her modelling commitments to the country's top-notch and also upcoming designers. "Well, there is a difference in terms of time factor. While shooting for a film goes on for many days, it takes only five minutes to walk the ramp. So there is a big difference between fashion and films. Moreover, films, fashion and advertisements go hand in hand," says the actress. As for her role in young filmmaker Farhan Akhtar's latest film "Don", Isha says: "It felt great to act alongside Bollywood's superstar Shah Rukh Khan. He was full of fun and energy on the sets. In my upcoming film `Salaam-e-Ishq' I am playing a Haryanvi girl. Then I am also doing `Darling' and Kalpana Lajmi's untitled film." Although Isha has acted in different genres of Hindi films, she admits that it was her item song "Khallas... ." in Ram Gopal Varma's film "Company" that gave her fledgling acting career a shot in the arm. -- Madhur Tankha
