KANPUR: The Railways have decided to set up two new rail coach factories at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh and Marora district in Bihar, an official said here on Thursday. The Rae Bareli coach factory would be set up at a cost of Rs.1,652 crore. The Centre has already sanctioned the project while nod for the Bihar factory was yet to be received, Additional member of the Railway Board Yashpal Gupta said. Mr. Gupta, who was here to participate in a seminar at the Indian Institute of Technology here, said the factories are being constructed to meet the increasing demand for rail coaches. Ultra modern and comfortable rail coaches would be manufactured in the factory, he said. He said the Rae Bareli factory will manufacture coaches based on German design and the coaches would be made of steel to ensure better quality. Earlier the country was importing rail coaches from foreign countries costing crore but after India started manufacturing its own coaches the costs have come down, Mr. Gupta said. - PTI
