JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Cooperatives Department has undertaken a review of urea availability in the wake of widespread panic among farmers in various parts of the State due to its absence in the market. The Department, which distributed 1.97 lakh metric tonnes of urea in the State for the current rabi season through its cooperative societies till December 12, also decided to make additional quantities of urea available to farmers by entering into a memorandum of understanding with Indian Potash Limited (IPL). The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Rajasthan, Sudhansh Pant, who met the representatives of IFFCO and KRIBHCO here in this connection, said that in the current month another 35,000 metric tonnes of urea would be distributed to farmers. IFFCO and KRIBHCO had already despatched 20,000 metric tones of urea by rail from Gujarat to railway stations, Merta, Kanakpura, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Lalgarh and Hanumangarh in Rajasthan. Nearly 500 metric tonnes of urea was being made available by these two cooperatives in Udaipur, Banswara, Jalore, Sirohi Bhilwara and Pali, Mr.Pant said. Mr. Pant said 14,400 metric tonnes of urea was made available by Rajfed and IPL through railway rakes from Gujarat while another 1,000 metric tonnes of the fertilizer was being brought by Rajfed and IPL by road to Jalore, Banswara, Udaipur, Bhilwara and Chanderia.
