M.M. Kalburgi
DHARWAD: Senior researcher and former Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University at Hampi M.M. Kalburgi has been awarded Central Sahitya Akademi Award for the current year. His collection of a hundred research articles "Marga 4" has been selected for the award.
Elated
Expressing happiness over the selection, Prof. Kalburgi attributed it to his research. "It is a usual practice to consider literary works for the award. However, it is heartening to note that a research work has been selected for the award this time," the former Vice-Chancellor said. He said that usually a researcher got recognition very late. This award being given to a researcher would certainly encourage other researchers, he added. The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a plaque, would be presented at a function in New Delhi on February 20, according to a release. As many as 24 writers from various States have been chosen for this year's Akademi awards under different literary categories.
