BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Thursday ordered a crime branch investigation into the death of a person at the residence belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha member Kharavela Swain at Angarpadia of Balasore district. "We have ordered crime branch investigation into the murder. Normally, the crime branch submits its report within four months or 120 days. But we will try to finish the investigation before the fixed timeframe," Director General of Police Amarananda Patnayak told over phone from Cuttack. The district police had rescued two seriously injured persons after receiving a phone call from the MP's residence on Wednesday morning. The two youths, identified as Sanjay Saxena and Santosh Saha, are native of Bihar, had sustained deep injures on head and body when the police admitted them to hospital. Sanjay succumbed to injuries in the evening.
MP brother's charge
However, the brother of the MP, Amitabh Swain, had filed an FIR saying the two stole ornaments from their house on Tuesday noon and were caught near railway station. The FIR also mentioned about a third youth, who helped these two in stealing ornaments. The police took Santosh Saha into custody after he was given treatment. Sources said Saha told the police that they were forcibly taken to the residence and denied their role in theft. Balasore Superintendent of Police P.S. Ranpise said the two accused were in a critical condition during the time of their rescue. It was still a mystery that how these youths had reached the residence of the BJP MP, who was away, after the alleged theft in the morning. Saha also lodged a complaint that they were severely beaten up by iron rod and sticks at the MP's residence.
Opposition demand
Meanwhile, opposition parties, including district units of Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist), demanded a proper investigation into it and action against the younger brother of the BJP MP.
