Berhampur trader makes a touching gesture

Staff Reporter

He finances the Haj pilgrimage of an old man but wishes to remain anonymous

BERHAMPUR: A Hindu trader has financed the Haj pilgrimage of an old Muslim of the city this year, who could have otherwise never been able to take up this cherished pilgrimage of every Muslim.

Haj is not the just the time of pilgrimage; it is also the time to show up one's generosity, love for fellowmen and self-sacrifice before the almighty, said Mirza Babar Baig, secretary of the managing committee of the Jamia Masjid of the city.

S.K. Sardar, 60, from the Patrapeta area, was able to take up the first Haj pilgrimage of life only due to the generosity and financial sacrifice of a reputed Hindu trader of the city.

But neither Sardar nor Baig want the name of the man revealed as it is a promise they have given to him.

The man believes, "Every good work is homage to the Almighty and no one should desire credit for it," said Mr Baig.

This surely proves that communal harmony and love remains intact between common men in the city and communal tension like the one that had erupted in the city a few months ago is nothing but the handiwork of miscreants.

To enable a person to undertake Haj is also considered a service to the Almighty.

Sayed Mubarak, the president of the Jamia masjid has sponsored the first Haj pilgrimage of Abdul Hafeez.

Small functions

Mr. Baig said they organise small functions to bid farewell to the persons out on their Haj pilgrimage.

At these functions the Hajis or the persons who have made Haj pilgrimage earlier interact with the new Haj pilgrims to give them tips regarding the pilgrimage.
