Train timings, route revised

NEW DELHI: Due to operational reasons, the timings and route of the Saharsa-Amritsar Garib Rath are being revised from January 7. The air-conditioned super fast express train will leave Amritsar every Wednesday and Sunday at 4-55 a.m. from January 7 to arrive at Saharsa at 10 a.m. the next day. It will leave Saharsa every Monday and Thursday at 3 p.m. from January 8 to arrive at Amritsar at 8-20 p.m. the next day.

The train will have stoppages at Beas, Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt., New Delhi, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Siwan, Chhapra, Hazipur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Barauni and Khagaria.

`Food for Hungry' drive

NEW DELHI: Master Choa Kok Sui Food for Hungry Foundation launched its "Food for Hungry" campaign in the Capital on Wednesday. Member of Parliament Navin Jindal was among those present on the occasion. Established in 2004, the Foundation is seeking to generate awareness about the issue through public campaigns. India ranks 93rd among the 119 developing countries in the Global Hunger Index.

Foundation stone laid

NEW DELHI: MCD Standing Committee member Vijender Gupta on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a community hall at Sector 11 in Rohini here. The civic body will construct the community hall at an estimated cost of Rs.118 lakhs. While a multi-purpose hall, kitchen and toilets will be constructed on the ground floor, the first floor will house a library, changing room, office and store. The second floor will have provision for a multi-purpose hall.

CPI (ML) protest rally

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-New Democracy organised a protest at Jantar Mantar here on Thursday against alleged rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl activist of Jameen Rakha Committee at Singur in West Bengal. The Committee is opposing the acquisition of farmers' land by the West Bengal Government for setting up a vehicle-manufacturing unit.

Birthday celebrations

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Prem Singh distributed blankets and fruits to the poor and needy at Lado Sarai here on Wednesday, his 75th birthday. He also went to Rajan Babu TB Hospital in Mehrauli and offered blankets and fruits to the patients.

Later he also performed puja in a temple with his family.
