Police take up `petty case' on Milind's complaint

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Subramanyanagar police have issued a notice to Vivek, son of a retired police official, and two others against whom Milind Kharge, son of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge, had lodged a complaint of harassing a woman on Tuesday night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Malini Krishnamurthy told The Hindu on Thursday that a notice had been issued to the accused in view of a case registered against them under the Karnataka Police Act.

As the complaint was not serious, it did not warrant registering a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). After registering a case under the Police Act, a notice would be issued to the accused and they had to appear before the court when summoned.

As it was a "petty case," a first information report would not be filed, she said.

Mr. Milind, a software engineer, lodged a complaint that Vivek and two others had passed lewd comments at his colleague Preeti when he dropped her at her residence on 4th Main, Subramanyanagar, around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

After Mr. Milind informed the police of the incident, a Hoysala patrol squad rushed there and took Vivek into custody.

As Vivek was reportedly drunk, the police took him to a hospital and subjected him to medical test. According to the police, Ms. Preeti is a tenant at Vivek's house.
