Letters to the Editor
Another Parliament session has come to an end and another promise of tabling the Women's Reservation Bill remains unfulfilled. The simple truth is that men MPs do not want to share space with women, who constitute 50 per cent of the population, for fear of being overshadowed and outperformed. The men pay lip service to women's empowerment and do everything to sabotage the proposal that has been hanging fire for years.
V. Padmanabhan,
R.K. Menon,
What is the need for a law providing one-third reservation to women in legislatures? Aren't they capable of getting elected on merit? Even if the law comes into effect, only the affluent will get the benefits. The Government should not give in to pressure exerted by women activists who take to the streets. The bill should not even be introduced, let alone be passed.
K.B.S. Murthy,
