`Nareepuja' performed at Chakkulathukavu temple

HONOURING WOMEN: Chief priest Radhakrishnan Namboodiri performing `nareepuja' on playback singer Vani Jayaram at the Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple, near Thiruvalla, on Friday. Thomas Chandy, MLA, and film actors Divya Unni and Meera Vasudev are a lso seen.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual `Nareepuja' ritual at the Chakkulathukavu Bhagavathy Temple at Neerettupuram, near Thiruvalla, was held with religious fervour on Friday.

Temple chief priest Radhakrishnan Namboodiri performed the ritual in the presence of a large congregation of devotees at the temple precincts in the forenoon.

The puja was held upholding the Manusmriti verses, ``where ever women are being worshiped, there will be glory and prosperity.'' Playback singer Vani Jayaram was the guest of honour. She was escorted to the temple to the specially arranged seat at the temple precincts for the ritual.

Mr. Namboodiri washed the feet of Ms. Jayaram and offered puja to her as part of the ritual.

Thomas Chandy, MLA, and cine actors Divya Unni and Meera Vasudev were also present.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jhaker inaugurated the cultural meeting held at the temple precincts, later. The chief priest delivered the benedictory speech.

Mr. Chandy presided over the meeting. Manikkutan Namboodiri released the temple diary on the occasion. The Madhya Pradesh Governor also offered a Thulabharom vazhipadu at the temple, earlier.
