Tejaswini the best

INDORE: Tejaswini Sawant won the air rifle Champion of Champions title after having struck the women's 10m gold with a score of 499.9 in the 50th National shooting championship at the Reoti Ranges here on Friday.

Tejaswini led an all-conquering young Maharashtra team to a 1-2-3 finish as the established shooters took a backseat as the golden jubilee edition came to an end.

Following Tejaswini on the podium were teenagers Jui Deshmukh and Radhika Barale, who were separated by 0.1 points for the silver medal.

Having shot 396 in the qualification, four points ahead of Jui, Tejaswini had 103.9 in the final with an excellent series of 10.4, 10.0, 10.4, 9.6, 10.7, 10.7, 10.7, 10.8, 10.8 and 9.8.

Jui shot 104.2 to get ahead of Radhika, who had qualified second with 393. In the final event of the day, Tejaswini led six women into the cash-rich Champion of Champions competition in the eight-player field. The top eight scorers in the final from men and women's air rifle events make it to the event.

Biting the dust

The men were made to bite the dust as only two, Sameer Ambekar and champion P.T. Raghunath, made it. Raghunath was first to get eliminated before Ambekar went out leaving the women to fight it out.
