TIRUPATI: The Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) on Friday regretted that the Central and the State Governments, which usurped power in the last elections on the social security plank, had not only backtracked on all their poll promises but were also pursuing only such policies that would subserve the interest of only the capitalist and imperialistic forces. At its district-level convention here, it was more critical about Government's `pro-rich' policies and penchant for privatisation which had commercialised education so much that it had completely gone out of the reach of the working class and the middle and lower-middle strata of society. The meet, which was inaugurated by State secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation K. Subba Reddy, adopted half a dozen resolutions, including denouncing `inhuman' lathicharge on the students, who were agitating for scholarships enhancement in Hyderabad.. The DSO wanted all teaching posts be filled up and scholarships paid to the poorer sections in the OBCs.
